Pediatric Dentistry in Franklin and Savannah, TN
What is a pediatric dentist?
Pediatric dentists are the pediatricians of dentistry. Pediatric dentists like Dr. Buzz have two to three years specialty training following dental school and limit their practice to treating children only. Pediatric dentists are primary and specialty oral care providers for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health needs.
Dr. Buzz, and his team love being around kids all the time. Kids are FUN! Kids are honest and are not worried about what they are going to say. They are excited about everything! We enjoy being creative and going above and beyond to make each visit a positive experience.
What should I expect at my child's first visit?
In order to prevent dental problems, your child should visit Pediatric Dental Care in Franklin or Savannah when the first tooth appears, or no later than their first birthday. It is important that your child’s newly erupted teeth (erupting at six to 12 months of age) receive proper dental care and benefit from proper oral hygiene habits right from the beginning. This helps to build good oral health habits that will stay with them for their entire lives.
What do I need to know about home oral care?
Home oral care, like brushing and flossing, are essential to remove the bacteria and plaque that cause tooth decay and gum disease.
Starting at birth, clean your child’s gums with a soft infant toothbrush or cloth and water. Start brushing your child’s teeth as soon as the first tooth appears. Parents should use a tiny smear of fluoride toothpaste to brush baby teeth twice daily as soon as they erupt and a soft, age-appropriate sized toothbrush.
Once children are three to six years old, then the amount of fluoride toothpaste used should be increased to a pea-size dollop. You will still need to perform or assist your child’s tooth brushing at this point, as young children do not have the ability to brush their teeth effectively. Children should spit out and not swallow excess toothpaste after brushing.
